During the night, one end of Aprils picket rope came down and she again tried to kick Snickers to death. What she succeeded in doing was to get Snickers so tangled up in ropes that she fell onto the lead rope tied to the picket and couldn’t get back up again. Thanks to Critter, as he also got loose and his running around the lake awoke Kiki and Dena up to the fact that there was a problem with the horses.

Upon first sight of snickers, Dena screamed back for Debie to get a knife. When answered by a panicked "What for?", she clarified that it was for cutting a rope; Debie awoke Kesi, who knew exactly where all her knives were. Meanwhile, Kiki just unhooked the halter and the horse stood up perfectly fine, no cuts, scrapes, or burns. Dena was the only one shaken, well Debie’s heart quickened a little at the demands for a knife.

As dawn arrived on Thursday morning, camp robbers discovered the left over blaugh, macaroni and cheese. The rummaging and bickering that occurred between birds, made it difficult for the campers to sleep. Debie got up and began tying horses to grazeable places. While leading Britt and Echo off to food, she noticed that Critters rope was just hanging on the ground with no sight of Critter. By the time she returned, Critter was smugly standing at his lead rope with his halter between his teeth, promptly shaking his head up and down, laughing about the situation.

Before loading the packs and horses, everyone had fancy flavored oatmeal for breakfast, proof that even Kesi will eat anything when she’s hungry enough. They were almost ready to leave; Snickers was all packed except for the diamond hitch, when she noticed that April was wandering away from her. In her frenzy, she gave a hop which caused the pack boxes to slam against her sides, thus further inducing her to buck. And buck she did.
