The position of the sleeping bags surrounded on three side by picketed horses made sounds carry funny and it was difficult to locate sound direcctions. Friday morning, everyone was awakened by Penny as she alternately stomped her feet and whistle blew at elk that were watering across the lake. She continued her threats for about an hour. it was shortly after 6:00 when the group got up and saddled up. They were glad that they had waited until the horses were fresh and it was daylight before they crossed the steep hillsides outside of the nights camp.

Some of the horses were getting really cranky. Penny would repeatedly plow into Kee-a-wali then pull back and practically jerk Kesi off of her horse; she, thus, earned the name of tank, Sherman Tank. Critter was lagging behind and Pam would ride April on his rear to keep him moving. Echo would lag and Kiki and Jennie would try and push him, but he would try and turn around and attack them; he, thus, earned the name Snake. When Dena took a turn at leading Penny, Snickers managed to get the rope trapped under her tail just as she was going straight down the hill around a log. Dena managed to remain in control, but handed Penny back to Kesi.

Sheep Lake was as pretty as Kiki remembered it and everyone rode to the southwest side for breakfast and to allow the horses good grazing. It was too early and cold to go swimming, but everyone did get their feet wet. Debie made pancakes for breakfast, as everyone else had set up the stove and gathered the food items. Some had syrup on their pancakes and others had jelly, either way
