They have never had this much time to relax for lunch and as the afternoon drew on, it got a little boring, so they began to pack up. the horses had been standing around fighting flies for quite some times and as soon as they saw the saddle bags being loaded they got real hungry and began to eat again. Around 5:00, they were saddled and headed back to the trail.

Crossing the stream again, Jennie jumped while Penny pulled back jerking her lead through Kiki’s hand. Kiki did get a pretty bad rope burn. There was quite a bit of trouble getting some of the horses to cross back over that creek. This was the second stop for the day, that generally meant the camp for the night.

Riding down to Berry Patch there was a lot of new trail. They passed young men working with hand tools as well as with chain saws. The new trail was about 12 inches deep in soft dirt. This made it very laboring for the horses to walk and it also kicked up a lot of dust. Half way down, Pennys saddle slipped almost to her belly and everyone had to stop so it could be fixed. It happened right on a steep slope, so it was very difficult to stand beside her.
