Kesi puts on sun lotion before leaving the lake.

The trail led to a dirt road, that led to a camping area were there was grass for the horses and a boat launch for the riders to wade into the water.

The horses were unsaddled and tied or hobbled so that they could graze. The edge of the lake had little tadpoles sunning themselves all along the waters edge of the boat launch. The riders wadded into the lake to cool down and wash some of the trail dirt off. Although swimming sounded like a good idea, the water was abit cold and the lake was very shallow and had lots of mountain ash covering the bottom. Kiki and Kesi did swim out into the lake looking for deeper water, but were not successful. After swimming, Kiki went off to dry her clothes and Kesi laid on a log and talked with Pam. Debie wandered around keeping peace between the horses and playing with the pollywogs in the water. Dena meanwhile, tried to take a nap in the shade.

When the horses started standing around and picking fights with one another, it was time to go. After saddling, they rode through more and more forests. Many of the little creeks were dried up, yet there were enough to occasionally, offer the horses water. In early evening they reached a dusty road and made camp on a hilltop just off the trail. The area had obviously been used as a camp before with a fire pit and logs tied together for a lean-to even though the ground had sharp rocks to dig into a sleepers back or side.
