The horses were hobbled or tied amongst nearby trees that had plenty of grass surrounding them. Although dinner was to be pre-cooked hamburgers, they had gotten slightly mangled; so they were mixed with some canned and instant chili and made into sloppy joes. There hadn’t been any place to obtain drinking waer for either the horses or the riders for the last several miles. So the drinking water was used sparingly. It was quickly cooling off, so they heated some for instant cocoa and spiced cider to drink. Kiki spilled hers down the front of her, but she was not burned.

Before turning in for the evening, the horses were picketed just a short distance from the camp area. In taking inventory for diary keeping, the group discovered that the only person who had remembered to bring a pen was Dena, but that she had forgotten to bring paper. She discovered that and her pen didn’t work anyway, so everyone would just have to remember their experiences.

A view from camp showed Snag Tooth
                              Mountain (center) to the northwest.
