Killen Creek fell over the ridge onto another plateau, the trail switch backed down the hillside and crossed over the water. The meadow above would have been a good place to camp, except that the group soon learned that the plateau below appeared to be alive with every camper in the world, camping in the small clumps of large trees. So they continued riding, hoping there would be a more private place to camp. They began to threaten Debie, if ahead on the trail there was not a nice place to make camp for the night, she would have to sleep in a tree.

Much to Debies delight, just past the #114 trail intersection, the trail rounded a corner to unveil two beautiful lakes about 30-40 feet or more across in the valley below. There was a path, over the bank from the trail, down to the second lake. There was plenty of meadow grass surrounding the lakes and on the hillsides for the horses. Debie was grateful that she had escaped sleeping in the tree, not that they could have really made her.

                                    (behind Penny), and Critter.

Since they had arrived early in the evening, several hours before dark, everyone went swimming. The water had been warmed by the sun and a cool breeze blowing across the surface made it feel even better to stay in the water. The bottom of the lake had about 4-6 inches of mountain ash that stirred up easily and dirtied the water, but it felt so good to get wet it didn’t matter. The water also helped soak all the trail dust off.
